Powering a More Resilient, Efficient and Connected Home

Klean NRG has successfully completed and commissioned a new residential solar PV and battery energy storage system at a private villa in Kibagabaga, Kigali, Rwanda.

The installation is designed to give the household greater energy resilience by combining solar generation, battery storage, hybrid power management and remote monitoring in one integrated solution.

With approximately 10 kWh of battery storage, the system provides around half a day of autonomy, helping maintain access to electricity when solar production is unavailable or when grid power is interrupted.

A Solar Energy System Designed Around Real Household Needs

Rather than simply installing solar panels, Klean NRG designed the system around the household's actual energy requirements and the appliances that matter most to the client.

The system supplies essential household loads including:

  • Refrigeration and freezer

  • Television and entertainment equipment

  • Lighting

  • Microwave

  • Water heater

  • Other household appliances

The result is a more reliable home energy system that can make better use of solar energy while reducing dependence on the grid.

Battery Storage: More Than Backup Power

One of the key benefits of the installation is the integration of battery storage.

The battery stores solar energy generated during the day and makes it available when solar production falls or the grid is unavailable. This provides the household with greater flexibility over when and how electricity is consumed.

A particularly encouraging early result came the morning after commissioning, when the client found that the battery still had approximately 40% state of charge after overnight operation.

For the homeowner, this translates into something simple but important: greater confidence that essential appliances will continue operating when they are needed.

Smart Monitoring and Ongoing Support

The system is also connected to remote monitoring, allowing both the client and Klean NRG to follow system performance remotely.

This includes monitoring key parameters such as:

  • Solar production

  • Battery state of charge

  • Household load

  • System operating status

Remote monitoring allows Klean NRG to provide ongoing technical support while giving the client greater visibility over their home's energy consumption and production.

From Solar Energy to Electric Mobility

This project also points toward a broader opportunity for residential energy systems.

The homeowner plans to use the solar-powered system to charge an electric vehicle (EV), bringing together three important elements of the clean-energy transition:

Solar PV + Battery Storage + Electric Mobility

This creates an integrated energy ecosystem in which electricity generated from the sun can be stored locally and ultimately used not only inside the home, but also for transportation.

Building Rwanda's Distributed Energy Future

For Klean NRG, projects such as this represent an important part of our expanding residential energy offering.

Our work began with a strong focus on expanding access to solar energy in underserved communities. Today, we are extending that experience into increasingly sophisticated residential and commercial energy solutions, combining solar PV, battery storage, energy management, monitoring and clean mobility.

The objective is not simply to install more solar systems.

It is to help households and businesses build cleaner, smarter and more resilient energy systems.

The Kibagabaga installation is another step in that direction.

From the sun on the roof, to energy stored in the battery, and soon to power on the road.

Klean NRG is helping turn clean energy into a practical everyday solution.
